Methanol is gaining prominence as an alternative marine fuel, but its naturally low lubricity requires precise testing to ensure safe performance in engines and fuel systems. With the new ISO 6583:2024 standard and the provisional IP PM FK method, the industry is moving towards the standardisation of these tests. The HFRR from PCS Instruments enables the lubricity of methanol to be measured under controlled conditions, providing reliable data for producers, laboratories and manufacturers in a context where the adoption of methanol continues to grow.
