The control of total fluorine in butane streams and liquefied petroleum gases (LPG) is essential to prevent catalyst deactivation in isomerisation and MTBE production processes. This study describes the application of a methodology based on pyrohydrolytic combustion coupled with ion chromatography (IC) for the quantitative determination of fluorine at sub-ppm levels. The procedure allows for the complete conversion of organic fluorinated species to inorganic fluoride, followed by chromatographic analysis with total times of less than 15 minutes. Precision and repeatability evaluations showed %RSD values below 5%, demonstrating the robustness of the method. The proposed technique is a fast and reliable alternative to conventional methods, suitable for quality control in refinery and petrochemical environments.
