New portable meter that allows easy measurement of the organic matter present in natural, waste or process water. It allows the measurement of both biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD). Operation is simple with accurate and repeatable results obtained in seconds. With its battery-powered system (optional), it allows the analysis of organic matter in water samples anywhere, without the need for reagents, providing the user with true portability. Measuring principle

This innovative BOD/COD meter performs an Absorbance measurement of the sample at multiple wavelengths of light using UV and visible LEDs. Many compounds absorb light in the UV-VIS spectrum, including organic compounds. Absorbance data at specific wavelengths can be related and approximated to BOD and COD, providing a monitoring solution for these critically important water quality parameters without the use of hazardous reagents or waiting for long response times in the laboratory.

Obtaining these BOD or COD values in seconds allows process control to be implemented when it matters most, saving reagent costs, optimizing the process and anticipating events, improving the ability of operators to meet water quality objectives.

Since correlations between absorbance and traditional BOD and COD vary depending on the type of organic compounds that make up these aggregate parameters, it is important that the actual BOD/COD field meter use a correlation, also known as a calibration model, that matches the site-specific water characteristics to ensure accurate results.
