The new Sievers Bioburden Rapid Analyzer model Soleil is based on a high-throughput flow cytometer to quantify bioburden in less than 45 minutes.
Compared to classical flow cytometry, we can analyze large fluid volumes(8 ml/min) almost in real time and, using a unique combination of viability staining, we can distinguish viable cells [bacteria and fungi (yeast and mold)] from non-viable ones (particles) that require days to be visible with classical methods.
The limit of detection is 1 cell/100 ml while the limit of quantification is <10 cells/100 ml of sample.
Simple sample matrices (e.g. WFI, PW, weak salt buffers) can be analyzed as is or with dilutions, thus solving any interference problems, while more complex ones (e.g. cell culture media) require evaluation based on their characteristic physicochemical properties with focused experiments.
The R&D team has used these applications in a variety of challenging matrices (e.g. enzymes, detergents, culture media, cosmetics).
The range of applications is wide as it can be used in different key processes to obtain a fast and accurate Bioburden result:
Soleil can be used both in the laboratory and at-line in production.
