Total Organic Carbon (TOC) analyzers serve two functions: they oxidize the organic carbon in a sample to produce CO2 and measure the CO2 produced. The three main methods of CO2 detection used are: - Non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) - Direct conductimetry (non-selective conductimetry) - Membrane conductimetric detection (selective conductimetry). NDIR TOC detectors measure CO2 in the gas phase, while conductimetric TOC detectors measure CO2 in the liquid phase.
